The teams chosen weapon is a Swiss built Formula 2 outfit, built by world renowned chassis builder Louis Christian, known simply as an LCR.
Made from aircraft spec steel, today’s sidecars are sophisticated purpose built race craft, and a million miles from the ‘Wallace & Grommet’ images that can be mustered up on hearing the word sidecar.
The Machinery
Powered with the latest Honda CM Engineering race tuned CBR600rr engine, we also have the most comprehensive & intelligent ECU (electrical package) with the all singing and dancing MO-tec ignition system in place. This aids the driver to be at one with the bike, by allowing the user to adapt the running of the engine for specific race circuits’ and conditions. Bolted to the other end of the aircraft spec wiring loom is a top of the race Aim dash, this provides a comprehensive view of information to the drivers eye: such as engine speed, temp, oil pressure, allowing the driver to adjust his driving if an issue was to arise.
The wheels are made from Aluminium for the rims with Magnesium centres, to give strength and make them very light for a low centrifugal force: as for the black sticky stuff, the team are sponsored by Yokahama Tyres and under the current rules can run slicks, cut intermediates, or full wet tyres dependant on racing conditions.
Suspension wise we set the outfit up more like a racing car, than a solo (motorcycle) competitor: in short we have enough travel to either help with the braking, or simply get the power down. Our bike is fitted with Maxton gas suspension which has been specifically manufactured for sidecars, under the rules we have suspension at both the front and the back wheel: but the sidecar wheel must remain fixed, making it a bit of a firm ride to say the least.
